Check It Out: Ivan the Giant

Ivan the Giant by Philip A Creurer
Young Adult Adventure

Ivan Morrow has spent his short life waiting for things to happen. Now something has happened. A distant ancestor from the past has entrusted him with something of great value and it has gone missing. But who stole it and how to get it back? He’s grown extraordinarily over the last year since turning eleven, but his mind is stuck in a kid-sized brain. Now he must match wits with a determined thief if he is to honour the trust placed in him by his distant relative.

This is a story about an 11-year old, written from his perspective as an adult looking back to the event. It is about how we all meet the challenge of growing up.

5 out of 5 fairies

Ivan the Giant will hold you captive. I really wasn't sure if I was going to like this book, but the synopsis certainly piqued my interest. If you've ever felt like a bit of an outsider you'll find Ivan to be very relatable. He's very smart and I really enjoyed trying to solve the mystery along with Ivan and his friends. Although this is solidly young adult it can easily be enjoyed by adults of all ages too!
