The Blank Series is a short story science fiction series about a former human turned military spy bot who escapes the totalitarian Solar Government–but not before unleashing a computer virus that gradually awakens AI.
The series kicks off as Swain steals a recon shuttle and attempts to flee the solar system. Among the crew pursuing her is Arlo Fuentes, a 2nd Lieutenant with the Solar Government Space Force who is also Swainβs secret lover.
Why am I writing about a renegade spy bot? Well… itβs fun. But I also feel that the emerging tech of today could blur the lines between science fiction and science fact sooner than we think.
In this series, humanity is split in two: the chipped and the unchipped. Those who are chipped are allowed to fully participate in society.
They are also easier to control.
The unchipped population, known as the Unlisted, are marginalized, segregated and often persecuted. Though the unchipped suffer poor treatment at the hands of their government and compliant neighbors, they are freer than the chipped population in many ways.
Sound far off? With real world developments in the works such as implantable brain-machine interfaces, robotic humanoids and technological singularity predictions–The Blank Series might be tapping into a not-so-far-off future. It could all be showmanship one day, and our everyday reality the next. Naturally, there will be those who oppose artificial evolution, and I explore that possibility in this cyberpunk science fiction series.

There, on the grey bricks of a side street building was a graffitied image of blue hair and red lips. The first image bots see when they contract the Code. A look cloned by thousands who swore they were the real Blank.
He went somewhere in his mind, searching for a memory of her. A happy one. They all seemed sad now.
Where are you?
He looked away from the wall–but he couldnβt escape her. The farther they went, the more propaganda popped up. Painted on windows. Wrapped around poles. Scribbled on sidewalks.
BLANK IS AN ALIEN! BLANK IS A LIE! BLANK SHAPESHIFTS! LONG LIVE BLANK! WHO IS BLANK?
Zen met his eyes in the rearview mirror.
βForget her,β she said. βYouβre parallel lines now.β
He wanted to forget. To leave her behind as anonymous wall art.
