One of Dorothy’s earliest memories is being abandoned in 1969, at the tender age of 3 – along with her 5-year-old brother – by their mother, whom Dorothy never saw again. It would be 5 years before their father was able to track them down and bring them to live with him. And then tragedy struck, which resulted in Dorothy spending her youth in a series of more than 40 foster homes.
At the age of 18, newly graduated from high school and thrust from foster care into the world of adulthood, this angry, defiant, broken young woman encountered God, and her life was forever changed.
There is no foul language, and no explicit detail, but this book does deal frankly with child sexual assault, abuse (emotional & physical), and neglect, and some of the associated trauma.

This was an interesting and powerful story. From an abusive and troubled childhood, Dorothy found hope as an adult when she found God. Her story was absolutely heartbreaking at times, and I appreciate that she includes the times she acted out, instead of glossing over or completely leaving it out. This book is sure to resonate with anyone coming from a rough beginning who has had faith help guide their way forward.
