The Doc
by Natalie Debrabandere
IT’S ALWAYS DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN… RIGHT?
Dr Alex Delcourt certainly hopes so.
A professor of medicine at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, VP of the cardiology department, and the most published in her field… She did not expect to be fired for, A) asking pertinent questions about the Covid vaccine and, B) saving people’s lives.
When a leaked video shows her in action at a famous BDSM club, things get even worse. Labelled by the Press as anti-vax, perverted, and a threat to society, Alex seeks refuge with an old friend in the mountains near Chamonix.
A chance encounter with Chief of Police, Samah Recco, leads to a bit more.
Dinner… A beautiful surprise… And maybe, just maybe…
The light that she’s been looking for.

5 out of 5 fairies
I knew going in this was either going to be amazing or horrible. It was absolutely amazing. Debrabandere has a great way of bringing scenes to life, as though they were unfolding right before your eyes. Not sure how I feel about Alex overall, but she was definitely an interesting character. Even if you don’t agree with some of her opinions, you can’t deny she’s a dynamic character who stays true to herself. I thought Debrabandere did a great job of representing the BDSM scene without glamorizing it or twisting it to be something it isn’t. I loved Samah from the start, and while I don’t want to give any spoilers, let’s just say there are plenty of scenes in this book to get your inner fire started. End note: While I did consider lowering the rating for the C-19 and anti-vaxx mentions, they aren’t central to the story and don’t overwhelm the storyline, and that made me decide to leave my rating at a 5.
Til next time,
Lily
