The Subtle Art of Suffering in the Balance of Love
by N Daniel
N. Daniel’s patchwork history truly shines in this endearing spiritual reference book on the subtle art of suffering and the balance of love. From metaphysical romance to notes on religion and finance, each essay is lovingly crafted and touched with the author’s personal pain. Filled with anecdotes, history and notes on faith, Daniel’s narratives are both timeless and heartfelt. The subtle art of suffering will sharpen your mind and help you to hurt correctly so that you might balance your thoughts and in turn perfect your life.

These past few years have been pretty rough emotionally for me, and this book was a welcome light in the turmoil. The essays in this are well-written, and although the book itself is small, you may want to read it one essay at a time instead of reading them all in one sitting. Daniel really opens his heart while writing these, and the reader will definitely feel like they understand the author behind the words at least a little bit by the end. Highly recommend if you’ve hit a rough patch in life and don’t have the energy for a long, drawn-out self-help book and want something shorter and relatable.

N. Daniel currently resides in Downtown Minneapolis and works as a live-in caregiver for a quadriplegic individual. When he isn’t writing or caring for his client you can find him wandering the city’s skyways, music blasting in his headphones, or walking along the Mississippi river with family and friends. He frequently volunteers with outreach organizations in the Twin Cities community. His beliefs center strongly around charity, service to others and supporting causes that protect personal freedoms, especially for the disabled, the poor, those unfairly stigmatized by mental illness, and anyone who suffers. He is inspired by redemption stories, especially the character arc of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables.
