Lucky 13
by Aric DeLaney
Wade thought being twelve was rough, then he became Lucky 13…
Wade’s world of bullies, deadbeat parents, and trouble with the law undergoes a magical transformation as he discovers that there are two sides to every mystical coin. After his father returns home, Wade is reluctantly dragged back into a world of deception and theft.
However, when Wade unearths a magical coin, his bleak life is abruptly flipped upside down. Plunged into an epic battle of good versus evil, and loyalty versus betrayal, he is left with no other choice but to flee from those he once trusted. Wade finds himself thrust into a world filled with magic and danger alongside his friend Bianca. As they navigate this enchanted realm, luck and misfortune intertwine to reshape their friendship, teaching Wade that his friends are truly his greatest strength. The battle for the Rainbow Cups begins…

5 out of 5 fairies
This was a fun, magical, middle grade fantasy adventure. If you’ve ever dealt with bullies, you’ll find it easy to empathize with Wade from the start. He’s kind of an outsider at his school, but has a small group of friends that are just as much outsiders as he is. Middle school might have been a long time ago for me, but DeLaney’s descriptions brought me right back there. I felt like I was seeing, hearing, and smelling everything as it unfolded. I loved the magical side of things, and thought the world-building was done well. The story moves along smoothly, keeping you hooked from the start. Highly recommend!

Aric DeLaney grew up in and around Wichita, where his passion for board games, card games, and RPGs was kindled. In fact, he met his wife during a poker game, and they’ve been ‘all in’ ever since. Together, they have two children who share their love for games. Beyond games, Aric is also fascinated with puzzles, magic, secret codes, and most importantly, stories. His love for everything from superheroes, conmen, detectives, evil magicians, and everything in between, ultimately inspired him to create Lucky 13 the first book in the Rainbow Cup book series.
