Even as she is whisked away into a whirlwind courtship, she canβt ignore that another set of eyes seems to be watching her from the dark.
With her unique group of dryads offering her protection and training, Melissa is beginning to feel like she can finally set down some roots of her own. Yet, she knows that she shouldnβt belong here. Rating & Review
5 out of 5
I love books that take you on an emotional roller coaster, tumbling you around. This book does that, all within the opening chapter. And it’s done so well that you’re hooked! I admit, the opening was at first a bit tame, and I was worried I was going to lose interest. Then Pey really ramped up my emotions, and once I thought my heart couldn’t break any more, things get really interesting. But if you want to know what happens after that, you’ll have to read this yourself (sorry, no spoilers). I think the thing that really stood out to me was the dept of the world-building and how well everything is described. I felt like I was experiencing things as they happened, slipping right into the story. The magic system was done really well, and I appreciated the glossary at the start of the book, so I wasn’t trying to jump to the back of the book and back into the story to look up terms. Overall, the early part of the opening had me skeptical, but by the end of chapter one I knew I was in for an amazing ride, and I enjoyed every moment of reading this.
About the Author
Callie Pey is the steamy fantasy romance author responsible for The Dryad Chronicles. She loves fantastical worlds and epic stakes that embrace love in all its forms with a heavy dose of adventure. A current Austinite, she enjoys reading almost as much as writing, painting, and finding even the smallest moments to capture joy. With one completed series behind her, Callie is now embarking on two brand new series to come: A dark fantasy not for the faint of heart and a paranormal romance that will feature parts of Texas!
