Bogganmor
The Glennison Darkisle Cases, #5
by Mark N Drake
Jack Glennison’s relationship with Beatrice Armitage continues to blossom, but her move to his old university means he must finally confront a misdeed from his student days… a misdeed his mind has long since blanked from his memory. Just what did happen that fateful night in the library vault? And why did the Head Librarian go missing shortly after?
In the fifth book of the Glennison Darkisle Cases series, Jack finds he must both face what he did and try to make amends for it. In doing so he must travel once more to Darkisle, this time to unravel a crime that he played a part in. But it soon becomes clear that there is something else going on, something linked to a terrible event from the past that the locals still won’t talk about. And just what truth is there to the stories about the shunned marshland that lies brooding at the heart of the island?
‘Bogganmor’ introduces us to a new Darkisle terror. It also delves more into the lore of this benighted corner of 1920s Britain, offering further glimpses of the web of mystery and horror that Jack has become entangled in.

5 out of 5 fairies
I’ve absolutely loved the Darkisle series so far, and this latest installment didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t wait to dive into the mystery of the night Jack’s forgotten, and everything surrounding it. While you don’t have to read previous installments, a lot of the character development happens over the course of the those books, and some events and places mentioned are also included in them. That out of the way, Drake wastes no time in drawing you into the story. Jack and Bea are going stronger than ever, and he’s been drawn back to the college where it all started. I loved being able to see everything unfold, and I was just as keen as Jack to solve the mystery. Although this isn’t extreme horror, it has a nice noir flair to it, with a bit of occult mystery mixed in. Cannot recommend this enough for people who enjoy semi-cozy horror with a flair of noir fiction!

Hi! Thanks for dropping by. I’m a new British author of Lovecraftian Horror fiction. Pleased to meet you!
I suppose you could say I’ve come to writing by an indirect route. I originally trained as a physicist before doing defence research for the RAF. After a few years of blowing things up, I changed career and went into Higher Education management. I took some time out to be a management consultant for a while before returning to Higher Education in a new role. And, finally, I found the time to start writing properly.
I’ve always harboured a dream to be a writer, but study, role playing games, rugby league and career always conspired to distract me. But at last, after a number of false starts and failed attempts (boy, I hope my early sci-fi efforts never see the light of day…) I am now in a place where I can bottle up a few decades of ideas and get them down on the page.
For the moment, I’m developing my fictional location of Darkisle, an overlooked island in the Irish Sea. It’s a place that outsiders generally avoid, where the locals mutter darkly in their own language and where ancient cosmic horror is never far below the surface. If you like Lovecraftian fiction, I really think you will enjoy my take on it as you explore 1920s Darkisle with me.
Originally from Derbyshire, I now live in County Durham with my family. When not working, I can usually be found in my shed, perusing my collections of Lovecraft and Iain (M) Banks books while trying out ideas for new stories and/or games.
