A fun mystery, interesting characters, a world where things are a bit different, and a hint of romance await you in this fun YA book. I admit, Jason wasn’t my favorite character at first, and my heart really went out to Eva. Probably because I was the smart, bullied kid in school growing up, and had one of the popular kids pull a prank in chemistry lab, too. And while I didn’t have to regularly deal with spoiled rich kids, I hated it when I had to. As the story progresses, we really get to see another side of Jason, and see Eva come out of her shell a bit. I loved seeing the character development and light romance side plot. You’re really hooked quite quickly once you start reading, and by the end of chapter one, I absolutely needed to know what was going to happen next. The alternate-world building was done really well, and it’s clear Maddon put a lot of thought into that and the character development. Overall, an excellent YA book that even older readers will enjoy!
