The Sun and Her Shadow
The Sun and Her Shadow
by Stephanie Combs

A missing god. A fake marriage. And two hearts that were never supposed to find each other again.
Raelyn spent her life in the shadows, cursed to live without sunlight and tragically trapped under her vicious stepmother’s rule. But when a chance encounter with a masked vigilante awakens a strange power within her, Raelyn’s dream of a future free from her stepmother’s grasp is finally within reach. So long as the realm doesn’t die first.
Prince Kian’s search for a lost god leads him to Raelyn, the woman who stole his heart years before. While she doesn’t remember their past, a connection lingers between them. With the king’s ultimatum to choose a wife before the season’s end or be forced into an arranged marriage, Kian takes matters into his own hands.
A deal. A fake marriage to save them both. No feelings, no risk. But as old magic stirs and long-buried memories resurface, their careful bargain begins to fracture. The gods have other plans, and some bargains were never meant to last. Will their secrets bring them together or tear them apart?
The first in a series of interconnected fantasy romance standalones, Stephanie Combs will whisk you away on an adventure filled with heart, humor, and pining in this whimsical Cinderella/Robin Hood inspired re-telling.

5 out of 5 fairies
This was a captivating retelling, and you’ll find it difficult to put down once you start reading. Admittedly, I am a sucker for a fairytale retelling, but I still need them to be well-written, and this absolutely was. I loved Kian and Raelyn from the start, and it’s clear they meshed well from the start, even if their relationship started off as a plan for a fake marriage. Raelyn is very much a Cinderella story, but with an interesting twist – she has to keep away from the sunlight. Kian was so sweet right from the start and easy to fall for. I love getting to watch their romance unfold (the slow burn is going to have you screaming at the book). If you’re a fan of low-spice, slow-burn romantasy, or fairytale retellings with a twist, then you definitely need to grab this! I can’t wait to see what book two has in store.
