Katy walked her daughters to the kitchen with one hand in Lily’s and the other around Annie’s waist and for the first time found her way to be both Annie and Lily’s mama. She foraged around the pantry and found some hard biscuits that were left in tins, snap beans in jars and some apple cider. She concocted a feast unlike they had ever known from their mama’s making. Katy then placed all the different preserves, beans and biscuits on the long dining room table and they ate using the silverware and china and drank apple cider from the long stemmed glasses. They had no idea which fork or spoon to use or which glass was proper but they didn’t care because they were eating at the finest table in the land. They were sitting at the table in the dining room of the grand North Highlands Estate. Who would ever have thought?   Finally after over an hour of giggles and spills they got up and went back into the library.

They had spent hours touring the house and filling their bellies. Annie plopped on the big oversized brown chair that she first spotted the night before while Katy and Lily curled up on the sofa.

This was the first time in Annie’s memory that the three of them had ever shared anything together.
