5 out of 5 fairies

I would give this more than five out of five, but since I can’t, I have to figure out where to start my review while trying not to reveal too much. I’m sitting here, as the formerly overly anxious kid who was pretty smart, struggled with math, who used books and art as an escape, just incredibly overwhelmed in the best way. It wasn’t hard to put myself in Sam’s shoes – only cellphones weren’t a thing back then. This is exactly the kind of book I would’ve loved as an anxious kid/tween/early teen. Reading this, felt like someone understood what I felt. Getting to explore worlds that are so familiar by Sam’s side as she went on her own journey/adventure made me want to go back and re-read those classics. I’d highly encourage parents and middle graders to read this, it’s a great way to help kids feel less alone in the way they feel, and for parents to open a dialogue. Definitely a book I’d reread.
