When I was younger, my babcia, Galina, and dziadek, Andriy, would tell me stories about growing up in a small village that straddled the Polish and Ukrainian border. I loved those stories, the way their eyes would light up before misting over with nostalgia as they wove these beautiful tales. My favorite, though, was about how they first fell in love, and how fate eventually brought them back together. Although this is retold in my own words, they were the ones who first told me everything. This story spans decades but didn’t really come to fruition until the modern day. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I’ve enjoyed hearing it over the years.
