Seventeen-year-old Jayniss has lived by these rules all her life, in the last remaining human settlement on Earth, far in the future. The settlement’s confined to a pocket of wilderness that used to be rural Pennsylvania, since the terrosaur—a species similar to the Tyrannosaurus rex, though much larger, fiercer, and more intelligent—stalks the planet.
But when her father goes missing, Jayniss can’t buy he was careless enough to have become terrosaur grub. Convinced something else transpired, she and her friend, Paum, venture beyond the settlement’s borders in search of him, despite the rules. But what they encounter not only makes them second-guess everything they thought they knew about the settlement, but puts their lives—and what remains of all of mankind—in grave jeopardy.

A thrilling YA post-apocalyptic adventure, complete with a sassy MC who isn’t afraid to challenge the norm, her dedicated friend, and dinosaurs that would put Jurassic Park to shame. You’re dropped right into a heart-pounding scene from the start, and it’s our first introduction to Jayniss, an we get an idea of who she is, especially when we see her interact with the sister she’s now responsible for. Paum is an interesting character as well, and a good friend to Jayniss. The story itself moves along at a good pace, and while the MCs are teens who were forced to grow up facing dangers we don’t, they still felt like older teens – mature, but not quite as mature and experienced as adults. Chris did an excellent job of toeing that line, as well as keeping the story itself within young adult lines. The story moves along at a good pace, with plenty of tension to keep you reading. I won’t give any spoilers, but any YA post-apocalyptic sci-fi lovers need to grab this!
