The heroes of The Pirate’s Hideout – Brett, Emily, and Kenneth – return to Pirate’s Cove, never imagining the remarkable events that started at the last school camp are far from over.
This time, it will be much safer at Pirate’s Cove with Watty, their enemy from the previous camp, safely locked away. Or is he?
Joined by Brett’s sister Amanda and a larger-than-life character, Andi, the children must battle old and new villains to solve The Pirate’s Riddle and find the elusive treasure.

I was so excited to return to Pirate’s Cove with Brett, Emily, and Kenneth, I’d gotten to know them so well in book one, and I was excited to see what new adventures laid in store for them. Lark didn’t disappoint in the slightest! Even with the addition of Amanda and Andi, I can’t help but think of the group as a sort of Scooby gang, solving mysteries. Although Brett grew a bit in book one, he’s still the jokester, and at times had me rolling my eyes (but he’s still a good character). The characters really are vibrant, and while they grow and evolve a little, they always stay true to themselves. The tension is palpable from the start, and although Brett supplies some comic relief, there’s always that thread pulling you forward. Although this is geared for middle graders, even older readers will find it difficult to set this one down!
