It’s the Halloween midnight ball on Spooky Street and all the ghastly neighbors are invited to bring along their frightful favorite treat. With Draco the Vampire and his bat brain cakes, Frogman from the swamp and his pickled eyeball juice, and Wanda the witch bringing her witch’s stew, of course, this Halloween party doesn’t have your typical festive fare. On the ghoulish menu are bloodshot eyeball sweets, scowling face sour gums, and bone broth stew. This spooky tale mixed with silliness and delectably disgusting deliciousness will have young readers howling for this wonderfully wicked rhyming story.

Oh, my gods – I wish I could give this more than a 5 out of 5. It’s adorable, I loved the story, the illustrations, all of it. The story is so cute, and I loved all the treats mentioned. They’re kind of gross but sweet at the same time. The characters were all so fun. The teaching guide (info in the back of the book if you’re interested in it), was absolutely wonderful as well. I loved all the activities and resources it included to really bring the book fully to life. Perfect for ages 5 – 105!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
School teacher veteran Jan Carey has her finger on the pulse of what children enjoy reading. She believes a good book is one that has imagination, humor, and twists. A book that can provide an opportunity for a child to laugh, feel a character’s emotion, or serve as a powerful guide through life’s challenges is also important. She hopes that her stories bring joy to her young readers with their silliness, humor, and fun illustrations.
Jan gets ideas for her books from images she sees or experiences she has but mostly from her thirty years as a school teacher. She believes that working with kids is a constant source of inspiration and wonder. For Jan, an important tool as a teacher is imagination and creativity which helps to enhance engagement with students in the classroom.
Hailing from Australia, Jan has been living in South India for the past several years, traveling and volunteering.
