Having read all of the Mafiosa Princess series, I was eager to see what the prequels had in store. Although this is a departure from the steam you’ll find in the main series (they are in HS), but the story is no less captivating. It was interesting to see these two so young. Although Giada is quite naive when we first meet her in book one, more than you would expect from an adult in a mafia family, the innocence suits her better as a teen. Although she has the typical concerns you’d expect, her devotion to her faith was a nice contrast to her concerns over making friends and wearing designer labels. Luca, on the other hand, is about what you’d expect from a teen boy. The contrast between them, and watching them get to know each other slowly, made for a fascinating story. Their families may have been intertwined, but it’s clear the two of them had very little interaction before. Although you could easily read this at any point during the series, I’d honestly recommend reading it before starting the series, as it gives you a better idea of where the characters are coming from. I can’t wait to see what the second prequel has in store!
